ONE MUST CONSIDER THE PAST WHILE MOVING FORWARD

COBA presents its African History Student Matinee program SANKOFA from February 8th to 10th as part of Harbourfront Centre's School Visits programme.

Sankofa 2011: Danse Belé is a theatrical representation of the history of Caribbean Indigenous Folk dances from Trinidad and Tobago. Danse Belé weaves dance, spoken word, music, drumming, chants and period costumes to transport the students through the life and times of plantation slaves.

As part of the program, students will have the opportunity to get a more in-depth explanation of the historical content of the work Danse Belé in an intimate group setting; explore chants through call and response, and learn movement from chosen repertoire of Danse Belé. Students will also participate in a Visual Arts workshop with Harbourfront Centre's School Visits educators to complement the performance.
